Advancing SDG 5: Strengthening Gender-Responsive Action

I believe multi-stakeholder partnerships are driving progress in gender equality, yet challenges persist in eliminating child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM). Strengthening gender-responsive policies, sustainable financing and disaster risk reduction is crucial to addressing these gaps. My work in community development and child protection has empowered grassroots solutions, from tackling “sex for pads” exploitation to mobilizing creative funding and policy reforms. Initiatives like the Tree Seedling & Pad Drive have supported over 8,522 girls and child mothers across marginalized communities in Kenya.

Innovating for Change; Digital Advocacy & Localized Action

By leveraging digital advocacy, art and animation, we bridge policy gaps and amplify grassroots voices. A key milestone was the Safe Spaces Initiative at a school in Mandera, Kenya which brought together local government, educators and community-based organizations to combat GBV, child marriage and menstrual health challenges. Gender-responsive budgeting and increased funding for gender-sensitive disaster preparedness are urgent steps to ensure long-term impact.

Collaborate for Gender Equality & Social Change

Through cross-sector partnerships, peer-to-peer mentorship and local leadership, we reinforce accountability and resource mobilization. Centering grassroots voices strengthens national and community capacities, ensuring women and youth-led organizations actively shape policies. By integrating gender-sensitive strategies into disaster risk reduction and peacebuilding efforts, we pave the way for a more inclusive, men engagement, resilient future in the Horn of Africa.
