Dear Kectil Colleagues,
The Kectil Program is excited to announce its 2020 Leadership and Innovation Conferences and Meet-and-Greets! We would like to meet you – the leaders born for greatness - in person for valuable discussions about issues that matter to youth.
In 2018, Kectil held conferences in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana and India. Last year our local conferences were held in Vietnam and Taiwan. This year, we focus on the Caribbean, Romania, South Asia and the Lakota Indian Nation with the following events.
- KECTIL CARIBBEAN LEADERSHIP AND INNOVATION CONFERENCE
Location: Georgetown, Guyana
Date: June 6th – June 7th, 2020
Deadline for Application: May 1st, 2020
A two-day conference will be organized by the Kectil Program to take place in Georgetown, Guyana. Guyana, which is in South America, is considered part of the Caribbean region, and is a member of “Caricom” (Caribbean Community). Georgetown is representative of Caribbean culture. It portrays the modern life in combination with splendid natural beauty. As a developing country in the Caribbean, it also has challenges. Dr.Sara Louanne Scott, Nateica Garraway and Dr. Patricee Douglass will be our local conference organizers.
- KECTIL MEET AND GREET IN ROMANIA
Location: Bucharest, Romania
Date: September 2nd, 2020
Deadline for application: August 1st, 2020
The Kectil Program will organize a “Meet and Greet” session in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. Romania is a developing country in the Balkans region, which is in Eastern Europe. It has a high Human Development Index (HDI)! Romania gained independence in 1866 from the Ottoman Empire. It became part of the Soviet Union in 1945 and an independent country again in 1989. Romania has beautiful mountains, rocky peaks and historical medieval towns. We would be glad to meet aspiring young leaders in the region. We are also very interested to learn more about the country’s history and culture and how they impact youth.
- KECTIL SOUTH-ASIA LEADERSHIP AND INNOVATION CONFERENCE
Location: Kathmandu, Nepal
Date: October 16th – October 17th, 2020
Deadline for application: September 1st, 2020
This will be the second time Ms. Sherry Knowles has been to Nepal – the country which is home to Mount Everest. In her past visit, she was touched by the indomitable spirit of the Nepali young generation and the beauty of the Himalayas. In 2015, the country faced a severe earthquake (also known as Gorkha earthquake) followed by continuous aftershocks which destroyed houses, properties and temples. It could not stop the Nepali people from striving forward. The Nepali people have a remarkable calm and charitable spirit supported by their primarily Hindu culture. Nepal is now one of 48 least developed countries (LDC) in the world. We know the Nepali youth are working hard to progress! The Kectil Team can’t wait to see young South Asian leaders in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal! Kectil will hold a full two-day meeting in Kathmandu and our local conference organizers are Dikchya Raut and Ganga Bhandari.
- KECTIL MEET AND GREET IN LAKOTA NATION
Location: Lakota Indian Nation in South Dakota, U.S
Date: To be confirmed
The Lakota Nation is a Native American tribe also known as the “Teton Sioux”. They are one of the three tribes of the Great Sioux Nation, primarily located in North and South Dakota, U.S. They are considered a semi-autonomous nation within the United States. The youth of the Lakota Nation have the pride of a great history of leaders who were among the first in America to love the land and teach environmental sustainability. They have a tremendous amount of knowledge about the earth to teach us all. This will be the first time the Kectil Program organizes an event which focuses on Native Americans and their significant contributions to society!
These Conferences and Meet/Greets are now available for application on our website www.kectil.com.
Ms. Sherry Knowles, the Founder of the Kectil Program, will personally attend each meeting. Other experts and Kectil youth leaders will also be in attendance.
To apply for a local conference, please go to the link https://kectil.com/conference/ and it will take you to the registration form. Please make sure you apply before the deadline noted in our announcement as we will have attendance limits at each conference to ensure we have appropriate space and food available. The Malmar Knowles Family Foundation is sponsoring the cost of the meetings. However, the Kectil Program will NOT PROVIDE any travel or accommodation funds to youth who attend a meeting. It will be up to you to make arrangements to get to the conference and stay in the area if necessary.
Stay tuned to our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages to learn more about the Kectil journey to create The Kectil Generation - a global collaborative youth network of leaders that goes beyond country, religion, culture, race or gender to transform the future for a better quality of life.
We look forward to seeing you!
Warmest regards,
The Kectil Team.
