Prof. Weber Antônio Amaral

 

Professor Weber Antônio Neves do Amaral is a global expert in environmental matters, including sustainable energy, green economies, bioenergy and biodiversity. He is a Professor at the University of Sao Paulo (USP) School of Agronomy and Forestry (ESALQ). Prof. Amaral received his M.S. and Ph.D. from Harvard University in Biology. He has worked for over 28 years in the private sector, including with CGIAR (Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research), a global partnership dedicated to reducing poverty and increasing human health and nutrition in collaboration with the World Bank.  He was the founder and CEO of the Brazilian Center for Biofuels, an initiative of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture in partnership with the USP. He has also acted as a consultant in bioenergy, sustainability and new business associated biodiversity to international organizations (UNDP, UNEP, FAO, UNCTAD), governments (Brazil, Chile, South Africa, Mozambique) and the private sector. Prof. Amaral is a member of international councils of the Pilot Programme on the Tropical Rain Forests (PPG7), UNCTAD – Biotrade Programme, and FUNBIO.
